The Arts Club of Dera Natung Government College, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a Workshop-cum-Career Counselling on Emerging Careers in Fine Arts on 7th March 2026 at the Conference Hall with the aim of creating awareness among students about various career opportunities in the field of fine arts and creative industries, and also to commemorate the International Women’s Day celebration to pay respect to all female artists.
The programme began at 10:00 am with a felicitation and warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Bombi Riram, Assistant Professor and Convenor of the Arts Club, DNGCI. Dr. M. Q. Khan, Principal of Dera Natung Government College, graced the occasion and encouraged students to explore their creativity and consider the arts as a promising career path. He also encouraged students to use technology and social media judiciously for learning purposes.
To mark the occasion, Ms. Likha Jarnia, a B.A. VI Semester student from the Department of History, was felicitated by the Principal for her sports achievements. Currently, Ms. Jarnia is going to represent the institution in the 9th Elite Men’s and Women’s National Boxing Championship, which will be held from 4th to 10th January 2026 at Greater Noida. The Principal also presented books on grammar as gifts to all the students and members of the Arts Club.
The highlight of the event was the session conducted by the invited resource person, Shri Pallov Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Fine Arts and Music, who delivered an insightful talk on the importance of women in the field of Fine Arts by tracing its history. He also discussed emerging career options in fine arts such as painting, graphic design, animation, illustration, and art education, along with a powerful PowerPoint presentation on various women artists. The resource person also guided students about higher education opportunities, portfolio preparation, and the importance of creativity and skill development in building a successful career.
A practical workshop session on a painting competition, in connection with the International Women’s Day celebration with the theme “Give to Gain: Power to Women,” was also conducted where students actively participated in creative activities and expressed their ideas through art. The winners of the competition were Ms. Lilysa Ponglaham (1st position), Ms. Lokam Yakuk (2nd position), and Ms. Angam Sikom & Nabam Jingba (3rd position). Certificates and prizes were awarded to the winners in recognition of their achievements.
Around 40 students and faculty members attended the programme and interacted enthusiastically during the session.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Gopi Riba, Assistant Professor and Co-Convenor of the Arts Club, DNGCI, followed by certificate distribution. The workshop proved to be informative and inspiring for the participants.
