The Women’s Cell of Dera
Natung Government College, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a
workshop-cum-paper presentation on 8th March 2026 on the occasion of
International Women’s Day. The programme was held in the Conference Hall of
DNGCI. The programme executions was led by Dr. Nguri Shanti Assistant Professor
and Co-Convenor of Women’s Cell DNGCI.
The programme began at
10:30 a.m. with the arrival of the chief guest. This was followed by the
felicitation of the chief guest, Dr. M. Q. Khan, Principal of DNGCI, and the
resource person, Advocate Sum Valentine Darang, High Court & Yupia Courts,
(Juvenile Justice Board Member, ICR).
The programme formally
commenced with a warm welcome song by Nyari Welly Girls Hosteller’s followed by
welcome address delivered by Dr. Bombi Riram, Assistant Professor and Convenor
of the Women’s Cell, DNGCI.
Dr. M. Q. Khan, Principal
of DNGCI, graced the occasion and highlighted the social, economic, and
cultural achievements of women. He applauded girls for their outstanding
performance in CBSE results and for breaking barriers in multinational
companies. He also mentioned the courageous leadership of women officers in
Operation Sindhoor. He explained that this operation symbolizes the protection
of dignity and reflects the power of women in uniform. He encouraged the
students to draw inspiration from these achievements. His speech celebrated the
strength, resilience, and dedication of women towards nation-building. He
concluded his speech by giving away books as a gift to resource person and all
the students.
The highlight of the
event was the session conducted by the invited resource person, Advocate Sum
Valentine Doang, a member of the High Court and the Juvenile Justice Board
(JJB, Itanagar Capital Region). The keynote speaker focused on legal awareness
and the protection of the women and children their rights, remedies and
realities. She emphasized the right to equality before the law and highlighted
various legal provisions for the protection and advancement of women and
children. The speaker discussed important legal rights of women related to
protection from domestic violence, workplace safety, economic rights, and
property rights.
She also spoke about the
protection of children's rights, particularly laws addressing sexual offences
against children under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)
Act, 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act,
which aims to rehabilitate children and reintegrate them into society.
The speaker concluded her
session by addressing the issue of “screen autism.” She explained that
excessive early childhood exposure to digital screens may trigger autism-like
behavioural patterns in children.
A paper presentation
workshop was also conducted during the programme. Five students namely Ms.
Ngamdon Wangsu (B.A VI Sem, Education) on “Her Power, Her Legacy”, Ms. Bomman
Ering (B.A VI Sem, English) on “The Power Within: Awakening Women’s Potential”,
Ms. Dipika Biswas (B.A VI Sem Hindi) on “Aurton par Annyay”, Ms. Geeta Taro
(B.A VI Sem, Education) on “Empowered Women: Empowered Nation” & Ms. Fesham
Liyak ( B.A IV Sem ,Hindi, on “Narishaksatikaran” presented their papers on the
theme “Give to Gain”. Certificates were awarded to the participants at the end
of the programme.
Around 100 students and
faculty members attended the programme and actively interacted during the
session.
The programme concluded
with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Gopi Riba, Assistant Professor and
Treasurer of the Women’s Cell, DNGCI.
The whole programme was
beautifully anchored by Ms. Gichik Yapi, Department of Hindi, VI Semester.
