Dera Natung Government College Itanagar (DNGC) organized a mega career counselling-cum-certificate distribution program at the college premises, celebrating student achievements while equipping graduating seniors with a roadmap for their future. The event saw the distribution of certificates to 125 dedicated National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers.
A major highlight of the program was the insightful career orientation session led by Principal Dr. M. Q. Khan. Highlighting the college's stellar track record, it was noted that the event organizers stand as the highest-performing among all NSS units in the state. The unit's exceptional year included a commendable performance at the Inter-College Competition held at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in March 2025.
Addressing the gathering, he extended full credit for these milestones to the combined dedication of the students, faculty, and staff. Pointing out the institution's prestige, speakers reminded the students that the college filters through thousands of applicants during admissions, and the selected NSS volunteers should feel immensely proud to be part of such a premier institution. Celebrating the college's academic excellence, Dr. Khan lauded the 54 top-ten rankers and 12 overall toppers who have brought laurels to the institution.
Addressing the pivotal question, "What's beyond graduation?", Dr. Khan urged students to look past traditional choices and explore specialized fields. "If you are completing your graduation in Political Science, remember that niche paths like an MA in International Relations exist," he noted, encouraging students to be highly career-conscious, purposeful, and goal-oriented.
Dr. Khan strongly advised students against mindlessly following their peers. "Choose your own path. Do not compromise your happiness. True satisfaction comes when you pursue a career of your own choice, not what others dictate. If you want to pursue photography, study photography. If your goal is to become an Assistant Professor, or clear the APPSC or UPSC, then align your studies accordingly," he said, adding that modern tools like the internet and AI can effectively guide their preparation.
The session also provided crucial clarity on the National Education Policy (NEP). Under the current framework, a standard three-year graduation leads to an Honors degree, opening wide "gates of opportunity" across various sectors. However, the NEP also allows a specialized fourth year with research. Students who maintain a 7.5 CGPA (with applicable relaxations for APST students) in the research track become directly eligible to pursue a Ph.D. Dr. Khan explicitly advised that those aiming for academia and research must opt for the four-year graduation with research, which sets them up for an Master followed by NET/Ph.D. pathways leading to roles as Assistant Professors.
The speakers collectively urged students to begin their preparation immediately, regardless of their current academic scores. "Nothing is impossible, but extraordinary work is required to achieve extraordinary results," the students were reminded. However, a strong emphasis was placed on mental health. Students were cautioned to align their dreams with their calibration and capacity to avoid unnecessary burnout, depression, and mental health issues. Aspiring candidates were advised to be selective and attempt a limited, focused number of competitive exams rather than spreading themselves too thin.
The core advice shared for a successful life transition included:
Guarded Ambitions:Keep your goals to yourself until they are achieved; success requires blood, sweat, and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Inspiration:Routinely read the biographies of successful people.
Life Discipline:Maintain a strict timetable, fix your sleep cycle, prioritize good nutrition, and actively avoid social media addiction.
Holistic Health: Stay physically active, play sports, and maintain rigorous personal health and hygiene.
The event was smoothly coordinated by Mr. Botem Moyong (NSS Program Officer), alongside Dr. Kipa Roni (NSS PO), Mr. Phuntso Gombu (NSS PO), and Dr. Tarh Achi (NSS PO), who worked in concert to make the program a grand success. The proceedings concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kipa Roni, expressing gratitude to the management, guests, and the vibrant student community.
