The
45th Annual College Week of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) began with
great enthusiasm on the bright afternoon of 9th November 2025. The
event—renamed Josh-E-Carnival this year—was inaugurated by the Hon’ble
Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu, who attended as the
Chief Guest. He formally opened the celebrations by flagging off the College
March Past, led by the young musicians of VKV, Chimpu. The theme for 2025, “Water
is life; be wise – every drop is a prize,” highlighted the importance of
water conservation.
Dignitaries
present on the occasion included the Hon’ble MLA, Shri Techi Kaso, as Guest of
Honour, and special invitees Shri Tatar Kipa, Former Minister (Education) and
Chairman, APBRDA; Shri Techi Nera, President, DNGC Alumni Association; and Shri
Byabang Hapo, Finance Secretary, AAPSU.

Inaugural
Programme
In
his address, the Honourable Chief Minister praised the college for its
remarkable growth—from its humble beginnings to its current stature of academic
and cultural excellence. He outlined various government initiatives for
students in entrepreneurship, sports, and the merchant navy, urging them to
utilise these opportunities. Emphasising the role of Yuva Shakti, he
encouraged students to remain active in both academics and extracurricular
activities, noting that holistic development is the hallmark of true education.
He
also announced the construction of the proposed Siddhartha Hall, a new
auditorium and convention centre, and shared plans for establishing another
college in the ICR region—reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding
higher education infrastructure.
Guest
of Honour Shri Techi Kaso encouraged students to balance academics with
co-curricular involvement. He stressed the importance of discipline, peace, and
harmony, urging students to cultivate mutual respect and avoid violence. He
reminded them to honour the sacrifices of their families and strive for success
both academically and personally.
Principal
Dr. M. Q. Khan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for his
unwavering support over the past three years and thanked Shri Techi Kaso for
initiating funding for the administrative block. He noted that many projects
had already been completed, while others, such as the introduction of Sociology
and Mass Communication departments, were progressing steadily. Dr. Khan also
appreciated Ms. Ratan Ania, Chairperson, APSCPCR, for her dedicated work in
child welfare; Ms. Techi Mema, Corporator, IMC, for her support at the local
level; and Deputy Commissioner Shri Toko Babu for his consistent assistance.
A
major highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the release of the annual college
magazine Alokarun, unveiled by the Honourable Chief Minister. Cultural
performances included a folk song and a mega dance featuring 210 students
representing various tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The Department of History was
adjudged Best March Past. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.
Wangda Gyana, followed by the commencement of sports events.

Programme
The
XLV Annual College Week concluded on 15th November 2025 with a grand
Valedictory Programme. Professor (Dr.) Pradeep Lingfa, Chairman of the
Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, graced the event as Chief Guest,
accompanied by Guest of Honour Ms. Mamta Riba, IAS, and Special Invitee Shri
Tarin Rai, President, BJP State Minority Morcha.

Highlights
In
his address, Professor Lingfa commended the college for fostering an
environment that supports holistic development. He encouraged students to
participate actively in co-curricular activities, noting that winning or losing
is secondary to learning and growth. He emphasised that college life forms the
foundation for future discipline, character, and life skills.
Ms.
Mamta Riba, IAS, aligned her remarks with the year’s theme, underscoring the
urgent need for water conservation. She highlighted rainwater harvesting,
mindful consumption, and community-led conservation initiatives, along with
future-oriented technologies like desalination. She urged students to integrate
environmental responsibility into their daily actions and reminded them that
education must equip them to serve society with humility and compassion.
Principal
Dr. Khan expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and proudly highlighted the
college’s achievements, including 54 departmental toppers in 2024–2025, with 12
achieving university-level distinctions. He noted the consistent excellence of
students in extracurricular fields and the introduction of two football teams
per house to strengthen the sports culture. He reaffirmed DNGC’s status as one
of the state’s most prestigious institutions, with alumni serving across
diverse professional sectors.
Special
Invitee Shri Tarin Rai, an alumnus of the college, encouraged students to trust
the state’s education system and make full use of their time at DNGC. He
described the college as a microcosm of Arunachal Pradesh, where diversity
fosters academic, social, cultural, and emotional growth.
The
programme concluded with the distribution of prizes and acknowledgements to all
contributors.
Literary,
Cultural, and Sports Highlights
The
Literary Activities Committee released the results of the various competitions
held during the celebrations. Students from Siang, Lohit, Kameng, and Subansiri
Houses excelled in painting, cartooning, debate, extempore, poetry, essay
writing, and quizzes. Siang and Lohit secured the highest distinctions.
Among
the standout performers, Jabed Abedin (Zoology, 5th Sem) received multiple
accolades and was named Best Litterateur of the Year.
The
cultural events were vibrant and engaging. Lohit House won the Solo Song
competition, followed by Siang and Subansiri. Siang House secured first
position in both the Group Dance Freestyle (Girls) and the Traditional Group
Dance, with Lohit and Kameng in second and third positions.
Sports
events witnessed enthusiastic participation across field and track categories
such as Discus Throw, Javelin, Shot Put, and races including 100m, 200m, 400m,
800m, and 1500m. Siang and Lohit dominated several categories. Siang House
emerged victorious in Badminton (Men), while Subansiri House topped Badminton
(Women) and finished runner-up in the Women’s 2 × 400m Relay.
With
consistent performance across literary, cultural, and sports categories, Siang
House was declared the Best House of the Year.
