Walkathon from Itanagar to Shillong -against Drugs Flagged off

Dr. M. Q. Khan, Principal of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar flagged off a “WALKATHON - from Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar to North Eastern Hill University, Meghalaya” today morning. The walkathon is undertaken and going to completed by Mr. Welkin Stone Shadap, a student of M. Sc. Botany from NEHU in 8 days with the theme “Healthy Minds, Healthy Lives: Walk against Drugs”.
During interaction, Dr M Q Khan the Principal appreciated the efforts of Mr Welkin and added that he granted permission to start the Walkathon from college simply because the theme of Walkathon is very significant and noble as the demon of drugs is spreading like wild fire in the northeast region and also in Arunachal Pradesh and the graph of drug addicts is soaring. ‘This is prime responsibility of all stakeholders, NGOs, unions, associations, institutions, parents etc to create awareness against ills of Drugs to save our youths’ said Dr Khan
Mr. Welkin suggested and encouraged the youths for using their energy in sports, cultural and other positive activities. All the participants have participated actively and promised to stay away from any kinds of drugs.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Phuntso Gombu, Programme Officer (NSS) and Dr Joba Riba, the Guest Faculty.
The programme was attended by faculty members and NSS volunteers of DNGCI.
